Hollis named to NCAA hoops committee
Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis has been named to the NCAA's Division I Men's Basketball Committee beginning next season.
The 10-man committee is responsible for selecting and seeding the 68-team field for the NCAA Tournament every March.
"I'm both excited and humbled to be appointed," Hollis said. "The growth of college basketball since my first level of involvement as a student manager in 1980 has been quite remarkable.
"I have the greatest respect for those who have impacted the sport, including those with the NCAA office and those having served on this committee. With new opportunities and formidable challenges on the horizon, I take seriously the anticipated contributions that come with serving the NCAA membership as part of this esteemed group."
Hollis was a student basketball manager at Michigan State under former coach Jud Heathcote.
Hollis has been the brains behind several innovative events in collegiate athletics, including last November's basketball game played on an aircraft carrier to honor the military.
Per NCAA rules, Hollis will have to leave the room whenever Michigan State is discussed by the other committee members during the selection process.
His term officially begins Sept. 1.
