The 2016 Arizona 6A, 5A and 4A state championship football games will be played Saturday, Nov. 26, at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale and televised on tape delay by FOX Sports Arizona.
6A: No. 1 Phoenix Mountain Pointe (13-0) vs. No. 2 Chandler (11-2), 7 p.m.
These two teams met back on Sept. 8, with Mountain Pointe emerging with a dominating 52-7 victory.
Mountain Pointe, seeking its first title since 2013, advanced with a 21-14 victory over Red Mountain. Delano Salgado rushed for 166 yards in the victory, which wasn't secured until wide receiver Jaydon Brooks took a handoff on an end around and completed a 59-yard touchdown pass to Central Region MVP Isaiah Pola-Mao to break a 14-all tie midway through the fourth quarter.
Chandler, which hasn't won a title since 1949, defeated Perry 62-20 in the semifinal round, led by running back T.J. Green's 252-yard, six-touchdown performance. The Wolves have scored 62 points in back-to-back playoff games.
5A: No. 5 Peoria Centennial vs. No. 2 Gilbert Williams Field (13-0), 2:30 p.m.
Unbeaten Williams Field, seeking its first state title, qualified with a 37-12 win over Queen Creek. Fifth-seeded Centennial, which won the championship last season in the state's largest division (then known as Divison I), advanced with a 56-21 win over Cienega.
Williams Field's defense forced five turnovers in its semifinal win and has surrendered only 147 points in 13 games. But it will be tested by a Centennial offense led by Zidane Thomas, who rushed for 325 yards and five TDs in the semifinal win over Cienega.
4A: No. 1 Scottsdale Saguaro (13-0) vs. No. 6 Tucson Catalina Foothills (11-2), 10 a.m.
Saguaro, which beat Salpointe 24-3 in the semifinals, has won 24 consecutive games and is looking to win its ninth state title in the last 11 years. Saguaro's explosive offense is led by the 1-2 punch of quarterback Max Massingale and running back Stone Matthews, but its defense has been equally formidable, limiting opponents to a touchdown or less in eight of its 13 games.
Catalina Foothills is making its first championship appearance. It defeated Higley 62-37 in the semis behind quarterback Rhett Rodriguez, son of Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez, who was responsible for seven touchdowns -- four through the air and three rushing.
