20-year-old outfielder Jason Heyward said on Tuesday afternoon that he doesn't plan to play in the Midsummer Classic if he is elected as one of the National League's starting outfielders.
Heyward believes he could still play if selected, according to a report on Atlantabraves.com. However, Heyward said if he cannot play for the Braves, he doesn't want to jeopardize the second half of the season.
The Braves placed the right fielder on the 15-day disabled list Monday night, retroactive to Sunday, with a deep bone bruise in his left thumb.
Heyward had a MRI, which was negative, and then met with Dr. Gary Lourie before the game. He was given a cortisone shot late Monday night.
