MIAMI -- Last season it was Doc Rivers vs. Austin Rivers in an NBA battle of coach vs. son. Could it this season be Larry Drew vs. Larry Drew II?

That is a long shot. But there's a chance.

On Monday the Miami Heat signed Larry Drew II, a point guard, to a training camp contract. He was undrafted in June out of UCLA.

Larry Drew is coach of the Milwaukee Bucks. His son played one season at North Carolina before transferring to UCLA, where he averaged 7.5 points and 7.3 assists as senior.

Drew, who coached the Atlanta Hawks the previous three seasons, averaged 11.4 points as an NBA guard from 1980-91. If he were to coach against his son, it would mark just the fifth time that happened in the NBA.

Doc Rivers coached Boston last season against son Austin's New Orleans team. There's also been Butch Van Breda Kolff vs. Jan Breda Kolff, Mike Dunleavy Sr. vs. Mike Dunleavy Jr. and George Karl vs. Coby Karl.
