Wednesday night's Hawks-Pistons game at Philips Arena has been cancelled following a winter storm that left the city of Atlanta gridlocked overnight on Tuesday, the team announced Wednesday morning.

The postponement comes as no surprise, as travel for fans and players would have been extremely difficult on the icy roads that forced drivers to abandon their vehicles, chldren to sleep at school and companies like Home Depot and CVS to house those without shelter.

No reschedule date was announced.

The pending game features the Hawks (23-21), who are in fourth place in the Eastern Conference under first-year coach Mike Budenholzer, hosting a Pistons team fighting for the conference's final playoff spot. It is also the second homecoming of former Atlanta standout forward Josh Smith, who signed with Detroit in the offseason -- he was held scoreless on 0-for-7 shooting on his last visit to Philips in November.
