Kevin Love's loss is now Paul Millsap's gain.
On Sunday, USA Basketball added the Hawks forward to the 2014-16 USA's Men's National Team roster, putting the All-Star in position to play for the Americans at this summer's inaugural World Cup -- and the Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics in two years.
"I'm very excited about being added to the USA Men's National Team roster," said Millsap, who'll join Hawks sharpshooter Kyle Korver on Team USA. "I look forward to practicing with and competing against some of the NBA's best for the honor of representing our country in Spain."
Even without frontcourt stars like Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge and the aforementioned Love (who dropped out of the tournament to guard against a pre-trade injury next month), Team USA still boasts a deep and versatile roster for the upcoming World Cup. The current training-camp roster includes:
Guard: Derrick Rose, Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry, Bradley Beal, Kyle Korver, Damian Lillard, Kyrie Irving, DeMar DeRozan, James Harden, John Wall
Forward: Kevin Durant, Paul Millsap, Chandler Parsons, Kenneth Faried, Gordon Hayward, Paul George
Center: DeMarcus Cousins, Andre Drummond, Anthony Davis
In his first season with the Hawks (2013-14), Millsap notched career highs with scoring (17.9), assists (3.1), total steals (129), 3-pointers made (76), 3-point percentage (36) and double-doubles (30). As such, he earned his first All-Star berth in February.
Next summer, Millsap will be an unrestricted free agent -- barring a multiyear extension with the Hawks in the coming months.
