ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Texas Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton could feel the ball whizzing by the back of his neck.

Hamilton says, though, that he doesn't think that Minnesota starter Scott Diamond was trying to hit him in the head.

Diamond was immediately ejected Thursday night after the lefty's pitch near Hamilton's head in the third inning. Twins catcher Joe Mauer had been hit by a pitch in the top half of the inning.

Hamilton said Friday that he thinks the ball just got away from Diamond. But Hamilton says it was the closest a pitch has ever come to hitting him in the head.

Diamond says he wasn't trying to throw at Hamilton's head. He says he was trying to work in on the pitch and that it definitely got away from him.
