Guided tour around Big Sandy, the track at Belmont Park

Belmont Park is unique. The track's surface, known as Big Sandy, is 1 1/2 miles around.

That means the 11 3-year-olds who enter the starting gate for Saturday's Belmont Stakes will be going a distance they have not gone before ... and may never go again.

The "Test of the Champion" is exactly that, a grueling run. If California Chrome is to become the first Triple Crown winner since 1978, he will have to overcome more foes than any Triple Crown winner did in its Belmont, plus the drain of three races in five weeks.
