Guerra has knee surgery, out up to six weeks

Seems that bad knee of Javy Guerra’s was more than a little sore.

On Tuesday, Guerra had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and is expected to be out four to six weeks.

The former closer left the team to return to Los Angeles for an MRI exam after confessing to the medical staff how much the knee hurt Sunday.

He originally injured the knee trying to get out of way of a comebacker that hit his face April 28.

Guerra, 26, began to struggle afterward and eventually lost his closing role to Kenley Jansen.

He had been trying to throw through the pain, but it had begun to affect his pitching mechanics and he was developing a sore arm.

It’s the age-old issue of a player trying to tough it through injury, or coming clean on its extent and risk not playing.

In other injury news, third baseman Juan Uribe (sore wrist) is scheduled to play three games with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga beginning Friday. If that goes well, he could be activated Monday.
