Groupie Doll charged down the middle of the track to win the $1 million Filly & Mare Sprint, restoring some order to a Breeders' Cup dominated by long-shot winners.
The 3-5 favorite won by 4-1/2 lengths on Saturday at Santa Anita and paid $3.40for $2 win bet, making her the shortest price of the eight winners so far in the two-day world championships. Ridden by Rajiv Maragh, Groupie Doll ran seven furlongs in 1 minute, 20.72 seconds after circling three-wide on the turn to take the lead. Maragh won the Juvenile Sprint on opening day Friday.
Dust and Diamonds finished second, and Switch was third.
Groupie Doll earned her fifth straight victory, all since trainer-owner William ''Buff'' Bradley added blinkers to the 4-year-old filly. She became the first winning favorite in the race's five-year history.
Switch was making her final career start. She is set to be sold, as is Dust and Diamonds.
