Grimm tabbed top AL rookie for April
ARLINGTON, Texas – Justin Grimm, who was the starting pitcher for the Texas Rangers Thursday night, can only hope is May is as good as his April was.
The right-hander, who started the season in Triple A Round Rock, was named the American League rookie of the month for April.
Grimm made three starts for the Rangers, going 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA. His ERA is the lowest among AL rookie qualifiers and opponents hit just .239 against him, second best among AL rookies.
Grimm had wins over Seattle and Minnesota and in the win against the Mariners, he struck out nine over six innings. He’s allowed just one earned run over his last two starts.
Grimm is the fourth Texas player to win an AL rookie monthly honor. Gerald Laird (April 2004), Neftali Feliz (Sept. 2010) and Yu Darvish (April 2012) are the others.
