A Michigan high school basketball team has won a state district championship a week after one of its star players collapsed on the court and died.
Fennville High erased a 10-point deficit to beat Covert high 51-48 Friday night for a Class C district title. The win improved the Blackhawks' record to a perfect 23-0.
Fennville won all three of its state tournament games after junior Wes Leonard collapsed shortly after scoring the winning basket in the team's regular-season finale last week. Doctors say he died of a heart-related issue.
Fennville's Reid Sexton made two free throws to put the team up by three with 16.5 seconds left, and desperation 3-point shot by Covert's Michael Smith missed with six seconds remaining.
