KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) -- Julio Teheran struck out 10 in six hitless innings and Dan Uggla homered as a split squad of Atlanta Braves beat the Houston Astros 3-2 Saturday.

The Astros' runs came in the ninth on a homer by Rick Ankiel off closer Craig Kimbrel.

Teheran, who won the job as the Braves' fifth starter this spring, walked three and has 1.04 ERA in six starts. The right-hander pitched five hitless innings against St. Louis on March 12.

Evan Gattis homered for the third time in two games. The Atlanta catching prospect has five homers this spring. Jordan Parraz also homered for the Braves.

Philip Humber, who will start the Astros' third game of the season, allowed three runs and three hits in six innings. He struck out four and walked none.



PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) -- Washington lefty Gio Gonzalez allowed one run in six innings, but the New York Mets beat the Nationals 3-1 on Saturday.

Making his first Grapefruit League start since pitching for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic, Gonzalez gave up four hits, struck out three and walked one.

Lucas Duda hit his fourth spring homer, connecting off Washington reliever Drew Storen in seventh for a tiebreaking solo shot.

Travis d'Arnaud added a RBI single in the Mets' eighth.

Washington's Chad Tracy was 3 for 3 with a double.

Mets starter Rafael Montero threw 4 2-3 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out three.



JUPITER, Fla. (AP) -- Chris Coghlan hit an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning off Marc Rzepczynski, lifting the Miami Marlins over the St. Louis Cardinals 6-5 Saturday.

Gorkys Hernandez drove in three runs for the Marlins. He got his RBIs with a groundout, sacrifice fly and singled.

Matt Holliday and Yadier Molina each had two hits and an RBI for the Cardinals.

Miami starter Nathan Eovaldi allowed three runs and nine hits in six innings. He struck out two and threw a wild pitch.

Cardinals starter Lance Lynn gave up three runs and four hits in 5 2-3 innings. He walked two, struck out five and hit consecutive batters starting the fourth.



PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (AP) -- Rays ace David Price gave nine hits in five innings and the Minnesota Twins beat Tampa Bay 6-4 Saturday.

Price allowed three runs, two of them earned, while striking out seven and walking two.

Eduardo Escobar had two hits for the Twins, including a go-ahead, two-run single in the seventh.

Jose Lobaton homered and had three hits for the Rays. Yunel Escobar got two hits and drove in a run.

Twins starter Kevin Correia allowed five hits and three earned runs in 4 2-3 innings.



SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) -- Chase Utley homered twice and drove in four runs, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 13-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.

Utley hit a two-run shot in the first and Ryan Howard followed with his sixth of the spring. Dominic Brown also had a three-run drive for the Phillies.

Utley belted his second two-run homer in the fourth, chasing Wei-Yin Chen from the game.

Chen allowed seven runs and eight hits in 3 1-3 innings. He walked two, struck out two and hit a batter.

Aaron Cook allowed two runs and four hits in 4 2-3 innings for the Phillies.



LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) -- Miguel Cabrera hit his fourth home run of the spring and the Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees 10-6 Saturday on an afternoon when the wind was blowing out.

Jhonny Peralta and Kevin Russo also homered for the Tigers. Torii Hunter and Alex Avila each added three hits.

Recently signed Ben Francisco homered twice for the Yankees.

Anibal Sanchez started for Detroit in his first major league outing since returning from the World Baseball Classic. He allowed four runs in six innings.

Andy Pettitte started for the Yankees and gave up four earned runs in 6 1-3 innings, his longest outing of the spring. He struck out five.

Yankees reliever Cody Eppley allowed five runs, all earned, without retiring a batter and saw his spring ERA balloon to 14.29.


FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) -- Clay Buchholz pitched four-hit ball into the sixth inning, but the Boston Red Sox lost 5-3 to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday.

The Pirates scored four times in the eighth. Pedro Alvarez hit a tiebreaking two-run shot off Anthony Carter for his first home run of the spring.

Buchholz allowed four hits, struck out four and walked one in 5 1-3 innings. Garrett Jones hit his first spring homer leading off the second for Pittsburgh's only run against the right-hander, who went 11-8 in 29 starts last year.

Jeff Locke, competing for a spot in the Pirates' rotation, gave up three runs, two earned, and seven hits in four innings.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia had two hits and drove in a run for the Red Sox.



DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) -- Brandon Morrow allowed four of his five runs in the fifth inning Saturday of the Toronto Blue Jays' 10-5 loss to an Atlanta Braves' spilt squad.

Morrow gave up eight hits in 5 1-3 innings and has allowed 15 runs over 15 innings in five starts.

Reed Johnson had a two-run single, the Braves' fourth consecutive hit off Morrow with two outs in the fifth, that pulled Atlanta to 4-3. The tying run scored on Morrow's wild pitch, and Justin Upton's run-scoring infield single put Atlanta ahead.

Minor league callup Edward Salcedo hit an eighth-inning solo homer and had a three-run drive in the ninth for the Braves.

Rajai Davis, Melky Cabrera and J.P. Arencibia hit solo homers off Sean Gilmartin, who gave up five runs and 10 hits in five innings.
