The Minnesota Gopher basketball team will make their first appearance in a Top 25 poll in nearly a year after they defeated West Virginia 74-70 in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off championship game Sunday in San Juan to improve to 5-0.
The Gophers were ranked #16 in the ESPN/USA Today Top 25 last November and then beat then-#10 Butler 82-73 in the first round of the 76 Classic. Unfortunately, they lost to Portland 61-56 and Texas A&M 66-65 and fell out of the Top 25.
The Gophers are hoping to make their return trip to the Top 25 a much longer visit. They face North Dakota State at home Wednesday before a Thanksgiving break. The Gophers will face off with Virginia in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge December 29th and Cornell December 4th before going on the road for the first time against St. Joseph
