The University of Minnesota's No. 2 goal scorer, Kyle Rau, will miss Saturday night's second game of a weekend series against Denver while serving a one-game WCHA suspension for a Friday night hit he put on Minnesota Wild prospect Jason Zucker.
Rau, a 5-foot-8, 172-pound freshman forward from Eden Prairie, caught the unsuspecting Zucker with a late hit near midgame during the Gophers' 5-3 loss at Denver.
At the time of the incident, Rau was assessed a 5-minute major penalty for boarding and a 10-minute game misconduct.
Rau entered the weekend with 14 goals for the 19-10-1 Gophers.
Zucker, the WCHA's preseason Player of the Year, is a major point producer for the Denver Pioneers. He was selected in the second round (59th overall) by the Wild in the 2010 draft. Zucker, a 5-11, 185-pound sophomore forward, received medical attention at length on the ice after Friday's hit. There is no current word on his health condition.
