Senior Kyle Rau, as already reported here, will be Minnesota's captain. Alternate captains will be seniors Ben Marshall and Seth Ambroz.

Rau, an NCAA Division I All American, is the reigning Gophers scoring leader with 123 points in 121 career games. The Eden Prairie, Minn., native is coming off his third straight 40-plus point season. He's also outstanding academically.

Marshall, from Mahtomedi, Minn., is the Gophers' active career leader in blocked shots (161). The defenseman has also recorded 50 points in 120 career games.

Ambroz, a native of New Prague, Minn., just posted a career-high 23-point season. He's also a member of the Big Ten All-Academic Team.

The trio continues a long tradition of Gopher hockey captains dating back to the program's first season of play in 1921-22 when Chet Bros first wore the C. Marshall and Ambroz represent the 159th and 160th players to assume the role of either captain or alternate captain for Minnesota.

As part of Minnesota's senior class, along with Sam Warning, Travis Boyd and Christian Isackson, the trio has helped the Gophers to three straight regular-season conference titles (a first for the Gophers hockey program) as well as two trips to the NCAA Frozen Four.

Doug McLeod is the play-by-play voice of Gopher hockey on Fox Sports North. A longtime Division I and NHL television announcer, he has called games of the Minnesota North Stars, Pittsburgh Penguins and Phoenix Coyotes. The 2014-15 season will be his third straight with FSN and 19th overall calling Gopher games. He also voices training and coaching videos and other productions for USA Hockey.
