Gophers get look at nine-game, 2016-17 Big Ten football slates
MINNEAPOLIS -- The schedules for the 2016 and 2017 Big Ten football seasons were released Thursday, and Minnesota will close out both seasons by playing one of its biggest rivals.
The Gophers will face off against the Wisconsin Badgers in the regular-season finale in both years. Minnesota will play in Madison on Nov. 26, 2016 and will host the Badgers in the 2017 finale on Nov. 25 at TCF Bank Stadium.
Jerry Kill's team will open the 2016 conference slate with a game at Penn State in 2016 on Oct. 1 and will then host Iowa the following week. Minnesota's 2017 Big Ten schedule begins with a game at home against conference newcomer Maryland on Sept. 30.
In addition, because of the Big Ten's nine-game conference schedule, the Gophers' game at Miami (Ohio) originally scheduled for 2016 has been moved back to Sept. 7, 2019.
The Big Ten Championship game will take place on Dec. 3, 2016 and will be played on Dec. 2 the following year.
