Gophers awarded again as Walker wins Big Ten player of week
MINNEAPOLIS -- For the second week in a row, a member of the Gophers men's basketball team has earned a conference award.
On Monday, Minnesota center Mo Walker was named the Big Ten Player of the Week. It comes one week after teammate and senior guard Andre Hollins won the same award.
Walker, a senior from Ontario, averaged 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in the Gophers' two games against North Dakota and Southern this past week. That included a career-high 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting in last Monday's win over UND.
For the season, Walker is averaging 11.2 points and 5.3 rebounds this season. Under second-year head coach Richard Pitino, Walker has continued to evolve into one of the better centers in the Big Ten. He shed around 50 pounds prior to last season and went on to average 7.8 points and 18.5 minutes per game as a junior.
Walker and the Gophers return to action Friday when they host Seattle University at Williams Arena.
