Giants' Rolle: Romo got 'too comfortable'
Antrel Rolle has been a starting safety for the New York Giants since the beginning of the 2010 season. Of the five games he's started against the Cowboys since joining the Giants, Rolle has faced Tony Romo four times.
Of those four, Rolle said last week's season opener was the most comfortable he's seen Romo play against New York's defense.
Rolle revealed that opinion Tuesday after being asked if Romo's performance on Sept. 5 was a career-best for the Cowboys quarterback.
"I'm not surprised. I'm not surprised by his play," Rolle responded during his weekly radio appearance on New York's 660 WFAN-AM. "In my eyes, Tony Romo has always been a good quarterback. He's a quarterback that can extend the plays and keep it going. He was just a little bit too comfortable for my liking.
"I just felt like he was a little bit too comfortable and I've never, ever seen Tony Romo that comfortable going up against our defense. Whatever we need to do to get him back running, then that's what we need to do."
A somewhat surprising response considering Romo was left with the task of disguising the weaknesses of an offensive line that was entering with little experience playing together and a center that was added the week before. A significant factor in the outcome was Romo's ability to make quick decisions and scramble out of the pocket to extend plays, which for most quarterbacks, wouldn't seem like comfortable situations.
Rolle said the Cowboys' offensive line "held up pretty well" against the talented pass rushing attack of the Giants. He also added that he thinks the NFC East will be a "tight division" from top to bottom and that he doesn't blame New York's 24-17 loss to the Cowboys on a Super Bowl hangover.
"I don't think it had anything to do with a hangover," Rolle said. "I just think that the Dallas Cowboys were the better team that night and it came out. I think they wanted it a little bit more than we did."
