Georgia dismisses starting forward Brandon Morris
Georgia forward Brandon Morris was dismissed from the university's basketball team after being arrested on felony drug charges, head coach Mark Fox announced on Monday.
Morris, a rising junior, was a starter on last season's team.
Morris was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute on Sunday morning. He was released on $2,500 on Sunday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
"This program has a strong expectation of citizenship and every one of our players understands this. This expectation does not mean that mistakes will not happen. When they do I always deal with them appropriately," Fox said in a statement. "Brandon had a very clear understanding of our expectation. Unfortunately, I've had to dismiss him from our team. We've offered Brandon as much help as we can as he leaves, in hope that he can continue his career somewhere else."
Morris was also suspended for the first three games of the 2013-14 season.
The 6-foot-7 forward from Lithonia, Ga., averaged 8.6 points and 3.4 rebounds as a sophomore.
