Geoffrion keys sweep of Alaska-Anchorage

MADISON -- Center Blake Geoffrion scored twice and jump-started a persistent Badgers offense as UW finished a sweep of Alaska-Anchorage with a 7-2 victory on Saturday night.

Wisconsin (24-9-4) cruised to the WCHA Frozen Five, which begins on Thursday in St. Paul. The Badgers will be the No. 2 seed behind regular-season champion Denver, and will play in the semifinals on Friday.

Geoffrion got the scoring started on Saturday with a goal just 3:32 into the game. He added the Badgers' final goal as well, capping a three-goal third period that sealed the win for Wisconsin.

Aaron Bendickson also scored twice, while Derek Stepan added a goal and two assists. The Badgers outshot the Seawolves 41-37 -- Scott Gudmandson made 35 saves for Wisconsin.

Wisconsin scored three times in the second period to beat Alaska-Anchorage to start its best-of-3 Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoff series.

Michael Davies gave the Badgers a 1-0 lead after one period Friday. Aaron Bendickson, Jake Gardiner and Craig Smith then scored to make it 4-0.

Wisconsin was 0-for-8 on the power play.

Alaska-Anchorage got its only goal from Craig Parkinson at 19:13 of the third period.

Scott Gudmandson had 27 saves for the Badgers, while Jon Olthuis stopped 25 shots for the Seawolves.
