DENVER (AP) -- Matt Garza felt a lot better than he pitched in another tough outing for the Milwaukee Brewers.
Garza was hit hard for the second straight start, and the Colorado Rockies beat the skidding Brewers 10-4 on Sunday.
Garza (4-9) allowed all 10 runs and gave up 13 hits for the second outing in a row. The Rockies benefited from some bloop singles with runners on base to chase Garza in the sixth inning.
"He broke a lot of bats and they fell in. Fell in front of outfielders," Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. "It felt like he gave up four or five broken-bat hits."
Charlie Blackmon drove in four runs and Troy Tulowitzki had three RBI for Colorado.
Blackmon hit a two-run single in the fourth and a RBI single in the sixth. Tulowitzki drove in two runs in the sixth when the Rockies scored four times to take a 10-3 lead.
They each had a RBI in the third when Colorado went ahead 3-1. Garza was hurt by an error on second baseman Hernan Perez that led to three unearned runs in the inning.
"In that spot I've got to make the pitch either way," Garza said. "I've got to pick my team up and I didn't do that."
Garza allowed seven earned runs in 5 1/3 innings, raising his ERA to 5.48.
"They had a lot of flares," catcher Jonathan Lucroy said. "That's been the story of the season so far."
Ryan Braun had a double and a triple for the Brewers, who have lost eight of nine.
"Maybe we need to sacrifice some chickens or something," Lucroy joked.
Nick Hundley had four hits and Nolan Arenado led off Colorado's three-run fourth inning with his 17th homer as the Rockies broke out for their most runs since scoring 11 against St. Louis on June 8. They averaged 3.2 runs in their previous 12 games before Sunday.
It wasn't entirely good news for the Rockies. Star outfielder Carlos Gonzalez left in the fifth with a mild sprain of his left hand. He was injured when he flied out in the third.
Gonzalez played the field in the fourth and banged into the right-field wall trying to make a leaping catch of Braun's leadoff triple. Braun scored on a groundout to pull Milwaukee to 3-2.
"I took a couple of dry swings and it was sore so they decided to take me out of the game and do treatment," Gonzalez said. "No bone problems. Hopefully it's nothing bad."
Gerardo Parra and Braun opened the eighth with doubles against reliever Justin Miller for Milwaukee's fourth run. Braun was stranded at third.
Rockies starter Chris Rusin (3-2) stopped his two-game skid. He allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings to win for the first time since June 6.
Trainer's room: OF Carlos Gomez was going to run the bases and take fly balls before the game to test his ailing right hip. Counsell said if everything went well Gomez could play Tuesday against the Mets. He has missed six of the last seven games.
Up next: RHP Mike Fiers (3-7, 4.50 ERA) opens a three-game series with the Mets on Tuesday night. Fiers is 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA in two career games -- one start -- against New York.
