Garcia hits grand slam as Wildcats complete sweep

TUCSON - Josh Garcia delivered a third-inning grand slam and six Arizona pitchers combined on 14 strikeouts as the Wildcats completed a season-opening sweep of North Dakota State with an 8-1 victory on Sunday at Sancet Stadium.

Tyler Hale pitched the first six innings and struck out seven. He gave one run on four hits and two walks.

Garcia's third-inning grand slam wiped out a 1-0 Bison lead. He was 6 for 12 with six runs scored, six RBIs and three home runs in the series.

Freshman Johnny Field had two hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Wildcats with a double in the fifth inning.

Arizona used nine pitchers in the three games and registered 40 strikeouts while giving up only 12 hits, four walks and four runs.

The Wildcats will hit the road next weekend, traveling to Long Beach State for a three-game series starting on Friday, Feb. 25.
