It will be a long two weeks in Columbia for the South Carolina Gamecocks as they enter their bye week trying to recover from a heartbreaking 27-35 loss at Auburn Saturday night. The Gamecocks are now 1-1 in the SEC with No. 1-ranked Alabama coming to town Oct. 9.
"We're glad we have a week off just to get some people well and all those kind of things," South Carolina assistant head coach in charge of the defense Ellis Johnson said. "I don't know if it makes that much of a difference. It's an advantage to have a week off whenever you get it. I think this is a good time of the year to have one."
Head football coach Steve Spurrier will have a decision to make when the Gamecocks take the field again. Quarterback Stephen Garcia completed 15 of 21 passes for three touchdowns and no interceptions, but gave way to freshman Connor Shaw after two fumbles in the fourth quarter.
