FSU, USF football to begin series in 2015
Florida State and South Florida have set a home-and-home football series beginning in 2015.
The Bulls will travel to Tallahassee in '15, and the Seminoles will visit Tampa the following year.
Florida State and South Florida have played twice. The Bulls won 17-7 in 2009 at Tallahassee. The Seminoles won 30-17 in Tampa last season.
“We’ve been working collaboratively on extending the series between USF and FSU for some time,” South Florida athletic director Doug Woolard said. “The two previous games provided such great atmospheres for both of our fan bases that it was important for us to extend the series.”
When Florida State played at Tampa in September, there was an intense demand for tickets. Many Seminoles fans bought South Florida season tickets just to secure a seat for the FSU-USF game, which was played before a record Bulls crowd of 69,383.
“For all the Seminole fans throughout Central Florida, this is a great opportunity to once again see their team play in an NFL facility,” Florida State athletic director Randy Spetman said. “The last time we played in Raymond James versus USF the atmosphere was excellent and the excitement generated among our fan base was unmatched.”
Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher is 6-1 against teams from the state of Florida, going 3-0 against Miami, 2-1 vs. Florida and 1-0 vs. South Florida.
“We’re excited to have USF back on the schedule,” Fisher said. “It’s been a good series thus far, and it’s great for our fans to have another in-state series on the schedule.”
