TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona freshman Kevin Cordes has been named Pac-12 Swimmer of the Month for December.

Cordes garnered national attention after impressive performances at the Texas Invitational, his first major college swimming meet. His times in his three events all automatically qualified him for the NCAA Championships, and he currently holds the fastest time in the country in the 100 breaststroke and the 400 medley relay and the third-fastest time in the 200 breast.

In Austin, Cordes won the 100 breast in a time of 51.76, shattering Olympian Brendan Hansen’s pool record of 51.96 set in 2003. He also added a win in the 400 medley relay (3:06.98) and a third-place finish in the 200 breast (1:53.55).

Cordes' teammate, senior Cory Chitwood, won the smae honor for November.

Arizona is the nation’s top-ranked team in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll.
