Francisco Lindor is now one step away from the Majors.
Following Monday's minor-league games, the Indians announced that the 20-year old, who is the organization's top prospect, has been promoted from Double-A Akron to Triple-A Columbus. Lindor was promoted to Akron at this point last year and many were wondering if the Indians would follow the same time frame in moving him up to the Clippers.
In 88 games with the RubberDucks this season Lindor is hitting .278 with 12 doubles, four triples, five home runs and 48 RBI. He also had 25 stolen bases, which is tied for fifth in the Eastern League.
Lindor is expected to join the Clippers in Louisville for Tuesday's game.
The Indians also announced that Erik Gonzalez has been promoted from Carolina to Akron. Gonzalez has spent most of the season with Carolina but played six games for Akron in the past month after Lindor was sidelined with a broken nose. Combining the two levels, Gonzalez is batting .290 (which is sixth best in the organization) with 16 doubles, seven triples, four home runs and 50 RBI in 80 games. He is tied for fifth in the organization in RBI.
