Four Class A Bowling Green pitchers combined for the first nine-inning no-hitter in franchise history. The Bowling Green Hot Rods, a Tampa Bay Rays affiliate, routed the Lansing Lugnuts 14-1 on Friday at Bowling Green Ballpark behind the efforts of Blake Snell, Eduar Quinonez, Nick Sawyer and Marcus Jensen. Snell, the starter, and Quinonez pitched three innings each. Sawyer (1 2/3) and Jensen (1 1/3) appeared in late relief.
"I actually didn't realize we had a no-hitter going until it was kind of brought up, but it was probably better that I didn't know," Jensen told MiLB.com. "I was pretty focused and I just kind of (had) tunnel vision.
"It's kind of embarrassing, but yeah, I didn't know."
The Hot Rods’ staff combined for nine strikeouts and seven walks. Lansing’s lone run, scored in the third, was unearned. "All the guys were excited – it doesn't happen everyday," Hot Rods pitching coach Kyle Snyder told MiLB.com. "It's not how you would draw it up, but under the circumstances, I'm certainly pleased." You can follow Andrew Astleford on Twitter @aastleford or email him at aastleford@gmail.com.
