Four Class A Bowling Green pitchers combined for the first nine-inning no-hitter in franchise history. The Bowling Green Hot Rods, a Tampa Bay Rays affiliate, routed the Lansing Lugnuts 14-1 on Friday at Bowling Green Ballpark behind the efforts of Blake Snell, Eduar Quinonez, Nick Sawyer and Marcus Jensen. Snell, the starter, and Quinonez pitched three innings each. Sawyer (1 2/3) and Jensen (1 1/3) appeared in late relief.
"I actually didn't realize we had a no-hitter going until it was kind of brought up, but it was probably better that I didn't know," Jensen told MiLB.com. "I was pretty focused and I just kind of (had) tunnel vision.
"It's kind of embarrassing, but yeah, I didn't know."
The Hot Rods’ staff combined for nine strikeouts and seven walks. Lansing’s lone run, scored in the third, was unearned. "All the guys were excited – it doesn't happen everyday," Hot Rods pitching coach Kyle Snyder told MiLB.com. "It's not how you would draw it up, but under the circumstances, I'm certainly pleased."
