Former Dodger Gagne on Puig: 'He's unbelievable'
STATELINE, Nev. — As the second half of the 2013 baseball season begins, the attention is firmly back on the Dodgers’ rookie sensation Yasiel Puig. Was his torrid six weeks an aberration or is he truly baseball’s next big superstar?
One former Dodger says it's the latter.
"He's unbelievable. And the fact that we didn’t even know his name a year ago is impressive," said former Dodgers' closer Eric Gagne. "It's pretty amazing and it's fun to watch.”
Gagne, in South Lake Tahoe this week for the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament, credits the find to the Dodgers' international scouting department.
The signing was a move that was considered controversial at the time as Puig initially failed to impress scouts after his defection from Cuba.
