CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- No freshman quarterback in Football Bowl Subdivision history has had a season as good as Jameis Winston.
The Florida State star made plenty of mistakes but still threw for 330 yards and three touchdowns in Florida State's 45-7 win over Duke in the ACC championship game on Saturday. But he threw for two touchdown passes, giving him 38 this season.
Winston broke the FBS freshman record, which was held by Oklahoma's Sam Bradford (2007). And Winston now also owns the ACC single-season touchdown passing mark, which was held by Clemson's Tajh Boyd (36 in 2012).
Add in that with every touchdown pass he throws, Winston is extending the single-season FSU record (he broke Chris Weinke's mark of 33 from 2000).
Here four observations from FSU's ACC championship victory.
1. Another long shutout for the Seminoles.
Florida State shut out Duke in the first half, the seventh time this season that the Seminoles have been able to race to a big early lead and see a "0" next to their opponent's name on the scoreboard.
The Seminoles shut out Maryland 63-0. Wake Forest, Syracuse, Idaho, Florida and Duke were kept off the board for three quarters, and Nevada, Bethune-Cookman, and North Carolina State for a half.
2. Florida State's defense gave Duke fits.
The Seminoles came up with three turnovers -- two interceptions and a fumble. And Duke was forced to punt nine times.
Duke's offense was averaging 33 points and 422 yards per game, but instead the Blue Devils came up with seven points and managed just 239 yards.
3. Roberto Aguayo is now the FSU, ACC single-season scoring leader.
Florida State kicker Roberto Aguayo needed just two points to become the school's and the ACC's top scorer in a single season. It was a record that would last just one season.
After Seminoles kicker Dustin Hopkins had 140 points in 2012, Aguayo came in to Saturday's game with 138. His 45-yard field goal in the second quarter put Florida State up 17-0 and broke the record. Aguayo now has 147 points.
4. Kelvin Benjamin is one of Florida State's best receivers. Ever.
Kelvin Benjamin had two receiving touchdowns in Saturday's win over Duke, giving him 14 this season. Benjamin is No. 2 on the single-season list behind just Andre Cooper, who had 15 in 1995.
And it puts Benjamin very close to 1,000 yards for the season. Benjamin has 933 yards this season.
