Florida International falls apart late in road loss to Old Dominion
NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- Ray Lawry scored a touchdown to tie the score with less than a minute to play, and an interception set up Satchel Ziffer's game-winning field goal as Old Dominion snapped a five-game losing streak and beat FIU 38-35 on Saturday.
The Monarchs fell behind when Anthon Samuel ran 26-yards for a TD with 13:17 to play. After trading a couple of scoreless possessions, Lawry punched in from the 2 to tie the game at 35.
FIU got the ball back with 58 seconds on the clock, but on second down Fellonte Misher intercepted a pass from Alex McGough to set up the Monarchs at the FIU 33. Ziffer kicked a 28-yard field goal for the win as time expired.
Lawry ran for 142 yards and two touchdowns for Old Dominion (4-6, 2-4 Conference-USA).
McGough threw for 132 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Golden Panthers (3-7, 2-4).
