Ferreira, FCD stun Real Salt Lake

SANDY, Utah (AP) -- The last time FC Dallas played in Utah, they lost on Real Salt Lake's dramatic tiebreaking goal in stoppage time. This time, Dallas got a measure of revenge.

Fabian Castillo scored twice in the second half, including the winner in stoppage time, to lift FC Dallas to a 2-1 victory over Salt Lake on Saturday night. Dallas (8-11-8) stretched its unbeaten streak to four games and snapped a six game losing streak in Utah dating back to 2007.

Castillo got the winner 2 minutes into stoppage time, finishing off a counter attack by firing the ball over the shoulder of Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando.

"Rather than conceding goals in the second half, we're scoring some -- which is certainly a turnaround," Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman said.

Alvaro Saborio scored the tying goal in the 76th minute for Real Salt Lake (13-10-3), which lost its third straight MLS contest. Saborio outjumped a crowd of players to get to a corner kick sent into the six-yard box by Javier Morales and his efforts paid off with a header that knotted the score.

"They definitely flipped the script on us this time," Salt Lake center-back Nat Borchers said, referring to his team's win on May 27th.

Castillo gave Dallas a 1-0 lead in the 61st after he took a pass from David Ferreira and cut past Tony Beltran on a run toward the left post. Castillo took his shot as he neared the post and sent the ball across the goalmouth, burying it inside the right post.

"We made a couple of tactical changes at halftime that gave us some strength to go at them and make them worry a little bit," Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman said. "Two good goals by us. And we just continued to weather the storm."

Salt Lake controlled possession for much of the first half and created plenty of scoring chances. Stellar play from Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman prevented Salt Lake from converting those chances.

Fabian Espindola nearly put Salt Lake on the scoreboard in the 30th minute after gunning the ball down the middle from just outside the top of the penalty area. Hartman dived to get his fingertips on the ball and slapped it away.

Beltran tested Hartman again in the 34th minute when he shook loose from a defender and fired the ball from an angle at the right post. Hartman pushed it away to set up a corner kick for Salt Lake, which ultimately led to a goal kick for Dallas.

"There's a reason why he's had the most shutouts in the league and played the most minutes in the league," Hyndman said. "He's just outstanding. He's definitely a difference maker who plays with a lot of confidence."

Dallas defender Matt Hedges was taken to the locker room in the 71st minute after an accidental collision with Hartman. His status for the team's next match is still unclear.
