ARLINGTON, Texas — Though he was the hottest starting pitcher in the Rangers rotation entering Friday's game, Scott Feldman had struggled throughout his career against the Tigers.
He was mistake free for nearly six innings Friday, but a poorly located changeup was the difference as Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder blasted a three-run shot to right field, tossing his bat immediately in a gesture to show he knew he got enough of it.
"He's a mistake hitter," Feldman said after the 6-2 Rangers loss. "He does damage with mistakes. And it was a mistake. It was a changeup that I was trying to throw down and away and it was right in his wheel house. He did some damage with it."
Fielder's home run gave the Tigers a 4-2 lead. Feldman, who entered on a six-game winning streak, exited shortly after, lasting 5.2 innings en route to taking his seventh loss of the season. The 29-year-old right-hander had an 8.54 ERA in 10 career appearances [4 starts] against the Tigers before Friday.
"I threw the ball well for the majority of the game but that pitch there to Prince I wish I could have back," Feldman added.
The go-ahead shot was Fielder's 20th homer of the season. It was also the fourth time he has gone deep in seven career games in Arlington.
