Fantasy Baseball Buzz: Jays' Reyes to DL

Fantasy Baseball Buzz: Jays' Reyes to DL

Published Apr. 1, 2014 5:57 a.m. ET

Jose Reyes led off Monday's game for the Blue Jays. He flied out to center field, injured his left hamstring on the way to first base, was taken out and placed on the disabled list. Reyes will have an MRI today. If you own him, please don't say anything like, "I can't believe this!," because you knew it would happen at some point.

On to the rest of the news:

Nationals C Wilson Ramos injured his hand when he got hit by a foul tip on Monday, but it's unclear if he suffered a fracture. We should find out more today.

Matt Lindstrom has been named as the White Sox' closer, and got his first save on Monday. Some of my fellow fantasy analysts are preaching patience with Nate Jones, and while I agree to a point, possession is nine-tenths of the law when it comes to closers. If Lindstrom pitches well, he'll keep closing. Pick him up immediately if you can.

In other surprise closer news, Francisco Rodriguez saved Monday's win for the Brewers instead of Jim Henderson. Manager Ron Roenicke said that he didn't like the way Henderson was throwing the ball near the end of spring training, and that he wanted to give Henderson "a couple of outings to get his stuff back and his confidence going." This situation sounds temporary.

They killed The Mother? Come on!

John Axford walked two batters while getting his first save for the Indians. You might want to keep Cody Allen on fantasy speed dial.

Emilio Bonifacio had four hits and a stolen base as the Cubs' leadoff hitter on Monday. If Bonifacio keeps playing, he'll steal boatloads of bases. He's available in 97.6 percent of FOXSports.com leagues.

Tanner Scheppers was a bust as our first streaming starter choice of the season. Let's go with Oakland's Scott Kazmir (owned in 26.7 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) against the Indians for today's selection, and Pittsburgh's Charlie Morton (3.3 percent owned) versus the weak-hitting Cubs on Wednesday. If you need to dig deeper today, consider Miami's Nathan Eovaldi (1 percent owned) against the Rockies.

Red Sox OF Shane Victorino is on the DL with a hamstring injury.

Indians OF Michael Bourn could return from the DL as soon as this weekend.

Rays OF David DeJesus is day-to-day after getting hit in the foot by a pitch.

Let's keep an eye on Abraham Almonte as the Mariners' leadoff hitter. He had 17 homers and 27 steals between the minors and majors last season.

The Mets will split first-base at bats between Ike Davis, Lucas Duda and Josh Satin in the early going. So much for anyone's fantasy value there.

Phillies SP Cole Hamels is targeting a late April return, in case you were looking for an update.

The Diamondbacks have lost RP David Hernandez to Tommy John surgery.

Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood (hamstring) has been scratched from his Wednesday start; Jordan Lyles will replace him.

See you back here tomorrow morning.
