The New York Yankees made a brief pit stop in Kansas City on Monday for a makeup date for a game that originally was scheduled to be played back in June. While the Yankees put a 8-1 shellacking on the hometown Royals at Kauffman Stadium, the Lowndes family, clearly big-time Yankees fans, took a patently bizarre approach to demonstrate their profound appreciation for the Hall of Fame career of one Derek Jeter, who of course is retiring at season's end.
They brought along a sign to the game in which they pasted Jeter's mug on the Mona Lisa. Because, um, of course. Is there possibly any better way to pay tribute to a true baseball legend than by putting his face on Leonardo Da Vinci's masterpiece? Well, there may be, but that's not important right now.

Yikes. Talk about nightmare fuel.
It could have been much worse. Maybe. The Lowndeses could have instead opted to use another one of Da Vinci's masterpieces in their tribute. Imagine if they would have pasted Jeter's face on the infant in the Benois Madonna. That would have been just creepy, right?
Come to think of it, given Jeter's reverential status among baseball fans who practically worship him, perhaps putting Jeter's face on Jesus in The Last Supper would have been apropos. Albert Pujols would probably agree with that sentiment, given how he previously compared Jeter to Christ.
Huh. Jeter Christ. Now that has a nice ring to it.
