Extreme Aussie Open heat causes Snoopy hallucination before player faints
If you haven't heard, it's incredibly hot in Melbourne.
With temperatures maxing out in the 100-degree range, conditions are tough at the Australian Open. And Canada's Frank Dancevic was one of the victims.
Dancevic fainted during his Tuesday first-round match against France's Benoit Paire. It wasn't the first incident of extreme heat affecting players at the Australian Open, but Dancevic's comments after the match were particularly disturbing.
"I was dizzy from the middle of the first set and then I saw Snoopy and I thought, 'Wow Snoopy, that's weird'," Dancevic said, according to the Herald Sun.
Dancevic went on to unleash some harsh comments about the state of affairs for the players.
"It's inhumane and I don't think it's fair to anybody when you see players pulling out of matches and passing out," Dancevic said.
"It's hazardous to be out there, it's dangerous.
"Until somebody dies, they're going to keep playing matches in this heat ... and personally I don't think it's fair."
The temperature has tipped over the 100-degree mark each day so far. A total of nine first-round matches ended in retirements. Dancevic actually managed to finish his, losing in straight sets. One women's player -- China's Shuai Peng -- even vomited on court.
