Experts: weak launch in Britain for DraftKings
BOSTON (AP) Gambling analysts say DraftKings has struggled to break out in Britain since the daily fantasy sports company launched to fanfare in February.
But Jeffrey Haas, DraftKings' London-based chief international officer, says the games have received a ''very favorable response.''
He says the Boston-based company remains on track to meet its target of signing up 100,000 new players based in the U.K. in its first year, though he declined to release any data to support the claims.
Chris Grove, a Las Vegas-based gambling industry analyst, says the absence of a major advertising blitz has put DraftKings at a disadvantage to older, deep-pocketed U.K. sports betting companies.
Valery Bollier, co-founder of Oulala, another daily fantasy sports company operating in the U.K., says the format of the contests is largely unfamiliar to European gamblers and presents another hurdle to the industry.
