Former Cowboys wide receiver Sam Hurd, accused of trying to set up a drug distribution scheme, was indicted again by a federal grand jury.
The latest indictment, according to a report by the Associated Press, is a charge of conspiracy to possess 5 kilograms or more of cocaine with intent to distribute.
Hurd, 27, played five seasons with the Cowboys, 2006-10, with a career-best 19 catches in 2007. He was playing for the Chicago Bears in 2011 when he was first arrested outside a Chicago-area steakhouse for allegedly accepting cocaine.
Hurd was arrested again last year after authorities said he attempted to purchase more drugs and twice failed a drug test.
Hurd is currently in a Dallas-area prison where he is being held without bond. His attorney, Jay Ethington, told the AP that prosecutors are "trying to move the goalposts" on Hurd.
Hurd faces a sentence of up to life in prison if convicted of the charges.
