South Africa-born batsman Jonathan Trott made a successful return Friday when he hit 85 off 104 balls to help England win by 185 runs against provincial team Eagles. England compiled an impressive 294 for seven wickets in the first match of its tour, before bowling out the Eagles for 109 in 26.4 overs. Trott struck seven fours and added 123 runs for the second wicket with captain Andrew Strauss in the major partnership of the England innings. The tourists were asked to bat first by home captain Boeta Dippenaar. Strauss also started the tour well, with 72 off 85 balls, including seven fours and a six. With Trott, he took the England score from 10-1 to 133 before he hit a ball from Ryan Bailey to Victor Mpitsang at square-leg. Bailey also bowled Trott to leave England on 186-4 in the 38th over. Bailey, a part-time medium-pace bowler, finished with 2-27. England's No. 5 batsman Eoin Morgan held the latter part of the innings together. He finished with 67 not out off 52 balls, while Luke Wright hit three fours and a six in compiling 24 off 11 balls. Morgan hit five fours and two sixes. England's seam bowlers struck early, with Stuart Broad taking two wickets in the first and third overs of the Eagles innings. The Eagles could not get any partnerships going, although six batsmen reached double figures. The best was young left-hander Rilee Rossouw, who hit 17 off 10 balls, with four fours. Broad finished with 2-28, with James Anderson, Saj Mahmood and Paul Collingwood also taking two wickets each.
