Ellsbury on DL, Wilson heading there
After a sluggish start to the season (3-5), the last thing the Boston Red Sox needed was a severe injury to one of its best players. Jacoby Ellsbury hit the 15-day disabled list on Saturday, but could miss up to eight weeks after he dislocated his shoulder trying to break up a double play on Friday. Bobby Valentine would not give a timetable for the outfielder's return. Remember, the Red Sox are still waiting for Carl Crawford to return from wrist surgery.
For fantasy owners, Ellsbury joins a list of several impact players that are currently on the shelf. Here are my some of my favorite, widely available replacements for right now:
In the National League, San Francisco received some awful news on Saturday when they learned their closer and facial hair afficiendo, Brian Wilson, may need Tommy John surgery to correct some structural damage in his pitching elbow.
The top two candidates to replace Wilson in the closing role are Sergio Romo and Santiago Casilla. Manager Bruce Bochey says he will go with the ever-popular closer by committee.
