East Carolina rallies past UNC Greensboro 85-84
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- Akeem Richmond scored 19 points and hit the go-ahead free throw to lift East Carolina over UNC Greensboro 85-84 Tuesday night.
The Pirates (2-0) opened the second half with a 23-11 run capped off by a three point play by Richmond to give East Carolina the lead after trailing by ten at half.
UNC Greensboro (1-1) increased their lead to six with 1:05 remaining, but East Carolina chipped back into the deficit with a Brandan Stith dunk and three free throws by Prince Williams to pull the Pirates within two.
Following a Kyle Cain layup, Caleb White was fouled corralling an offensive rebound and hit both free throws with 12 seconds left.
Richmond stole the ball on the ensuing play and was fouled on a three-point attempt. He nailed all three free throws to give East Carolina the win.
Tevon Saddler poured in a game-high 34 points for the Spartans.
