Early mock: Who might the Vikings draft?

Vikings general manager Rick Spielman is "excited" – almost giddy – about the position he finds himself in this offseason.

He is, for the first time in his front office career, the unquestioned man in charge. He has headed the personnel departments of the Minnesota Vikings and Miami Dolphins before, but never has he had the full authority he now enjoys as the general manager of the Vikings, and there might not be a better time to put his stamp on an organization that has the flexibility to create cap space to sign young yet proven veterans and holds eight draft picks while anticipating two more fourth-rounders as compensation for losing Sidney Rice and Ray Edwards in free agency last year.

After spending four days in Indianapolis at the Combine and being involved in dozens of media interviews with NFL prospects -- as well mass interviews and smaller media sessions with Spielman and head coach Leslie Frazier – I've had the chance to learn where the Vikings might lean in the upcoming draft. The Vikings hold the third pick in the draft and will draft in that slot at the beginning of most of the seven rounds.
