Drew back on field for first time since injury
Buster Posey said he had a hard time digesting the replays of Stephen Drew’s severe ankle injury.
"It made my stomach turn watching it," said the Giants' catcher, who suffered a similar but less stressful ankle injury in May.
Drew was back in his natural habitat Monday, taking grounders at shortstop on one of the Diamondbacks' practice field at Salt River Fields, the first time he has taken part in baseball activities with the team since his injury July 20. He worked for about 15 to 20 minutes before taking a turn in the batting cage.
"It was weird and good at the same time," Drew said. "Overall, I was pretty pleased. It was a good day."
Drew began hitting earlier in his rehab process and expects to be on the same schedule Tuesday, ankle permitting.
"We’ll see when I come in," Drew said, referring to his arrival Tuesday.
"That will be the key — how much can I do before I can’t do anything and have to take two days off? We are kind of playing it by ear. It’s not like pulling a hamstring. Ligaments have to heal up.
"It’s going to make me better. When someone goes through something like this, you have a lot more respect for guys that come back, because it is very hard."
