Dream rookie Schimmel owns WNBA's top-selling jersey
It didn't take long for Dream rookie point guard Shoni Schimmel to become one of the most recognizable players in the WNBA. Schimmel, who brought her own sizable and supportive fanbase to Atlanta due in part to her Native American heritage, now boasts the top-selling jersey in the league.
Schimmel leads an impressive cast of the WNBA's top stars on the list, including Skylar Diggins, Elena Delle Donne, Maya Moore, Candace Parker, Brittney Griner and Diana Taurasi.
Thanks in large part to Schimmel, the Dream lead all WNBA teams in merchandise sales, according to Tuesday's announcement from the league office.
Schimmel, a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla in Oregon, was drafted No. 8 overall by the Dream in the 2014 WNBA Draft, becoming the highest-drafted Native American in league history.
She has already been voted by the fans as an All-Star, joining veteran teammate and All-Star starter Angel McCoughtry.
"For the fans to go out and vote, I definitely have to give it to them," Schimmel told reporters after being named an All-Star. "For them to have my back and sit there and vote for me every day is just something they took pride in. They obviously want to see me in the game, so for them to do that means a lot to me."
Schimmel is averaging 7.6 points and 3.6 assists while playing 19.8 minutes per game this season.
