DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) Doug O'Neill saddled five winners Wednesday at Del Mar to break the track single-day record for a trainer.

The 47-year-old O'Neill broke the mark of four set by Red McDaniel on Sept. 4, 1954, and matched by O'Neill two days later, and by Farrell W. Jones in 1963, Ron McAnally in 1989, Jack Van Berg in l995, and John Sadler in 2009.

''Unbelievable,'' O'Neill said. ''We thought we might have a good day, but this ... It's hard to win a single race down here. But to do something like this, what can you say? Just very special. I've got to thank all the people around me. ....

''You hope for something like this, but you really can't expect it. But it all fell into place today. Great rides, perfect trips for the horses, right spots ... you just couldn't ask for more. I'm lucky, really lucky, and so very happy.''

O'Neill won the first race with Hye I'm Jack, didn't have a starter in the second, then swept the next three with Jimmy Bouncer, Tumbleweedprincess and Land Over Sea.

After not having a runner in the sixth race, O'Neill took the seventh with Lookin for Money under Flavien Prat. O'Neill's Housemaker was second. O'Neill didn't have an entrant in the eighth and final race.
