Donovan starts on the bench

Landon Donovan will start Sunday's Gold Cup quarterfinal on the bench, US Soccer's Twitter feed has confirmed.

Donovan had started each of the team's three group stage matches despite recovering from illness at the tournament's onset.

Today, one day after returning to the team after attending his twin sister's wedding in California, Donovan gives way to Alejandro Bedoya in Bob Bradley's starting lineup.

With 133 appearances, Donovan has more caps than any other player on the US Gold Cup roster. If he makes an appearance today, Donovan will tie Jeff Agoos for the second-most appearances in U.S. men's national team history, 30 behind record-holding Cobi Jones.
