ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Cardinals' outfield thinned out on Friday after the Arizona Diamondbacks claimed Jeremy Hazelbaker off waivers. The Diamondbacks officially announced the move on Twitter.

Hazelbaker, 29, got off to a surprisingly hot start for the Cardinals last season but eventually cooled off near the end of May. Hazelbaker finished the year with a .235 batting average, 12 home runs and 28 RBI in 114 games. He also added five stolen bases.

Hazelbaker spent seven seasons in the minors before joining the Cardinals in 2016 for his first run in the majors.

The Cardinals are exploring their outfield options this offseason, according to General Manager John Mozeliak. With the likely departure of left fielder Matt Holliday, St. Louis could potentially move center fielder Randal Grichuk to the corner outfield position.
