COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State sophomore wide receiver Devin Smith’s incredible one-handed grab against Miami (Ohio) September 1 is nominated for the GEICO Play of the Year, Intersport announced today. Each week, fans vote for the GEICO Play of the Year and the winner will be announced on GEICO Best of College Football 2012 on CBS Nov. 23 at 1:30 p.m. ET. In addition to recognizing the season’s top plays, the one-hour CBS special relives the season’s greatest moments, players and traditions. The show also marks the culmination of the GEICO “Best of 2012” Football Tour, an interactive fan experience that visits 30 marquee games throughout the football season. Each week for eight weeks, four incredible college football plays will be nominated as the Play of the Year on the GEICO Best of College Football Facebook page. The eight weekly winners will then faceoff in a week of finals voting from November 4 through 11 to determine the 2012 GEICO Play of the Year. Smith wasted no time creating a highlight-reel play for the Buckeyes this season. Early in the second quarter with Ohio State trailing 3-0, sophomore quarterback Braxton Miller lofted a pass toward Smith in the corner of the end zone; Smith leaped, fully extended his right hand over his head and controlled the ball while falling to his back. The touchdown gave Ohio State a lead they would not relinquish as they went on to beat the Red Hawks 56-10 for the first win in the Urban Meyer era.

Smith’s one-handed touchdown snag is competing against three other plays from week one, including a long, spinning run from Clemson’s Andre Ellington, a defender-hurtling run from Michigan State’s Le’Veon Bell and juke-filled reverse touchdown from California’s Keenan Allen. To watch and vote for Smith or any of the other highlight plays, visit www.facebook.com/BestofCollegeFootball. Fans can vote once a day. Week one voting opened today and ends Sunday, Sept. 16, at 11:59 a.m. CT.m - we will deliver!”
