Detroit superstars banter over bucks
It has been speculated that Pavel Datsyuk's fabulous Detroit Red Wings career is winding down.
By all indications, Datsyuk really enjoyed playing in his homeland during the NHL lockout, leading some to believe that he'll return to Russia when his Red Wings contract expires, after the 2013-14 season.
Now Datsyuk, 34, jokingly gives another reason why his days in Detroit might be nearing an end — his team's owner, Mike Ilitch, being tapped out. Ilitch also owns the Detroit Tigers and last Friday gave ace Justin Verlander a lucrative new deal, reportedly worth $180 million over seven years.
"@JustinVerlander congrats on the new contract! Mr. Ilitch spent all his money. Nothing left for me :-)," Datsyuk tweeted, along with the picture of a stuffed piggy bank.
Verlander's response?
"@Datsyuk13 haha. Thanks man. Dinner is on me."
