Departing used a strong stretch run to overtake Ruler of Love and win the $500,000 Grade II Super Derby at Louisiana Downs on Saturday night, giving trainer Al Stall Jr. his record third victory in the race.

A 1-5 favorite ridden by Robby Albarado, Departing charged from third on the final turn. Ruler of Love finished second in the seven-horse field, followed by Cameo Appearance. Departing covered the 1 1/8-mile course in 1:50.08, ultimately winning by four lengths.

Departing also won this year's Grade II West Virginia Derby. The gelding paid $2.60, $2.10 and $2.10 for the Super Derby victory. Ruler of Love returned $5.80 and $4.00, and Cameo Appearance paid $3.60 to show.

Albarado also won the Super Derby in 2006 aboard Strong Contender. Stall won the race with My Pal Charlie in 2008 and Apart in 2010.
